Halifax Light Rail Alliance

Halifax, Nova Scotia is a mid-sized city in eastern Canada. In response to worsening traffic congestion, there has been discussion in recent years of undertaking costly highway expansion or construction of a third harbour bridge.

As an alternative, we designed a light rail system entirely on existing right-of-ways including former rail lines, electricity corridors, and highways. It links downtown, six universities, a shipyard, Canada’s largest military base, and many areas designated for future growth in the city’s official plan.
