Nam Tong
In response to Hong Kong’s chronic “land problem”, we conceived a conceptual new town for 350,000 residents, near Tseung Kwan O, called Nam Tong. The plan is intended as a more sustainable, easily phased alternative to other land supply options.
To introduce the proposal to the general public, we created and illustrated a 50-page booklet that provides easy-to- understand diagrams and text explaining the project location, infrastructure, and urban design characteristics. Nam Tong was well-received by environmental concern groups and the town planning sector. It received extensive coverage in news media and has been championed by local politicians.
The proposal would affect artificial shorelines only, and lies outside Victoria Harbour, which is protected from further land reclamation under the Protection of the Harbour Ordinance.
The “Nam Tong” proposal was covered by most major Hong Kong media outlets including Oriental Daily News, Sing Pao, Apple Daily, Headline Daily, RTHK, Sing Tao Daily, Hong Kong Economic Times (HKET), Sky Post, Bastille Post, Hong Kong Economic Journal, and HKET’s Property Station. It appeared on the front page of Yahoo! Hong Kong and also received broadcast airtime including on RTHK’s Hong Kong Today.
